Chaos & Nightmares; Loss of Control

The World continues to spin and humanity remains planted on its surface, stuck-fast and along for the ride. We traverse millions of miles during the course of our short lives. Our physical presence spirals through deep space. Corkscrewing along a plotted course that is unaffected by our tiny presence. We have learned a great deal over the millennia, and will continue to learn a great deal more.

Our consciousness affords us an awareness of our situation, but are we really looking? Degrees of conscious awareness can vary greatly. We can become aware of our reality and of every circumstance that effectively causes us to be right here, right now, feeling and thinking as we do. Every time we increase our conscious awareness we gain a more detailed picture of the complex and dynamic world in which we find ourselves. With this increase comes an added benefit as well, an ability to make sense of and discern the proper course as we move through life.

Why then is it so difficult for us to control the events in our own lives sometimes? Why do we look out at a world that seems a chaotic jumble of happenstance events?

I believe it is primarily because of two things;

1-There is a general lack of conscious awareness and a resultant inability for many individuals to discern the proper course of action.

2-An intentional deception propagated in order to motivate the wills of men and women to a desired end.

Lately I have been thinking about our very own ability to control our individual feelings, thoughts, and actions. Most people would say that they are in full control of themselves. For those that believe this I would ask one question; Have you ever made a mistake that you knew was wrong, without a good reason, more than once? Most of us would then answer yes. We are autonomous but to varying degrees. Crimes of passion are committed by those who have lost control. In our dreams we lose the conscious control we enjoy during waking hours. We can, and do, lose control in varying degrees that correlate directly with how consciously aware we are of the causal factors affecting us.

Loss of control is what nightmares are made of. Literally. In many ancient depictions of hell, such as Tartarus or Avici, sufferers where described as finding themselves compelled to move toward and through the suffering and torment. Their autonomy was stripped from them and like a pre-programmed flight course they plodded on. Their sovereign wills had been subjugated by some over-powering force that drives them in a direction. A direction not of their own choosing and known to be horrific. While this is an extreme example that is rooted in fantastical ideas, the idea that our wills can be overpowered is real and deserves our full attention.

Our wills can be taken from us, just as it is in a nightmare that marches us toward the suffering and pain we know awaits. It can be overpowered by deception. Deceptions that takes root because we do not possess the degree of conscious awareness to see it as false. I believe the state of affairs worldwide can be understood. The chaos and struggle that has become the modern hallmark of human civilization is largely due to our inability to affect the desired outcome of peace and prosperity. As I said earlier I believe it is because of two main reasons; the first being a deficiency in having a conscious awareness of the causal factors, and the second is a false understanding that brings about choices that result in outcomes other than what is desired and expected. Every choice we make affects us all. Choose wisely.
